psychology Classroom Lesson Guide: How to Play Interview Bingo

Interview Bingo is one of the most effective communicative speaking activities in Japanese elementary English education. It gets students on their feet, engaging in real peer-to-peer dialogues, repeating target grammar naturally with multiple partners, and having fun striving for a Bingo!

STEP 1

Individual Prep & My Info (3 min)

Hand out 1 worksheet per student. Have students write their name and fill in their personal answers in the "My Info" box at the top.

STEP 2

Teacher & ALT Modeling (2 min)

The ALT and Homeroom Teacher (HRT/JTE) roleplay a quick demo in front of the class. Show students how to Janken (Rock, Paper, Scissors) to decide who asks first.

STEP 3

Pair Interview Activity (8-10 min)

Call "Stand up, please! Find a partner!" Students walk around, make eye contact, say "Hello!", ask target questions, and write their partner's name in the matching grid box.

STEP 4

Bingo Check & Wrap-up (2 min)

Call "Sit down, please!" Count Bingos together: "Who got 1 Bingo? 2 Bingos? Blackout Bingo?!" Praise everyone's confident speaking and effort!
